2012 > Para Doxa

Co-created with Brittney Denham and George Gregory

Para Doxa (Faux Science) is an exploration of sense and nonsense through a convergence of child’s play and adult work. The whimsical act of breathing fog on the windows is inherently child-like, while the seemingly logic-based measuring and calculations of the breath is an adult act. Libraries are spaces where adults perform serious work. The pretense of legitimate scientific research of such a playful act of curiosity blurs the meaning of these codified behaviors, and allows for new forms of meaning to emerge in reconfiguring conventional oppositions in contemporary culture—between public and private, the absurd and rational, and the prohibited and authorized.
