2017 > hard/add/soft/subtract

These paintings are exercises of overlapping the precise lines and additive colors of computer generated shapes with precariousness of the human hand and the subtractive colors of painting. All of these arranged rectangular shapes are entirely painted on canvas. But the sharp lines and additive colors are modeled by sketches made in Adobe Illustrator.

The marks are made by mixing the colors to match the additive color scheme and painters tape is used to replicated the sharp lines. These are intersected by other rectangular forms made through subtractive mixing of paint and the lack of (painters tape) support for the edges.

What results is a mosaic of precise, light, hard-edge forms interacting with darker, fragile, human marks.
