add/fold/subtract
An exercise in layering cycle of folds of painted red and blue marks on stretched linen that are photographed, inkjet printed on translucent rice paper and layered over the painted linen. The rice paper inkjet print is then primed with clear gesso and the process repeats. The first layers ultimately fade, but are captured as new painted layers of pink, violet, and light blue hues – until those hues fade to areas of white.
This work continues the experimentation with the additive colors of digitally generated images that interact with the subtractive colors of inkjet print and acrylic paint. The translucence of the rice paper oddly mimics that same additive color effect for a more complex layering to the additive/subtractive dynamic of color on material surfaces.
